The Trapezoid.
Some projects are about space and value. Others are about people.
The Trapezoid was a deeply personal project designed to support multi-generational living at a time when family, health, and affordability all mattered more than ever.
The brief was to create an annexe so a grandmother could move into her own carefully designed space. This allowed her son and daughter-in-law to move into the main house and begin the next chapter of their lives together.
This decision was shaped by real needs. Ongoing health challenges and the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis meant staying close to family support was essential. The annexe needed to feel like a true home, offering comfort, privacy, and independence while remaining part of a shared family setting.
After the extension was completed, a new generation arrived. With grandparent close by and a home designed to support everyday life, the family was able to grow with confidence and security.
Today, three generations live happily and healthily on the same site. The project has also added long-term value to the property, creating flexibility for the future and supporting inheritance planning.
This project is a reminder that good design is not just about buildings, but about enabling people to live better lives together.
