Hope House Children's Hospice approached Speaks Design Services to refurbish and reconfigure the main entrance area, creating a more welcoming, calming, and accessible environment for the children, families, visitors, and supporters who pass through its doors every day.
The existing entrance presented several operational challenges, including restricted access for beds, wheelchairs, and specialist equipment, alongside an arrival experience that did not fully reflect the warmth and compassion of the hospice's work. Working closely with the hospice team, we developed proposals that balanced practical requirements with the need to create a reassuring and inviting first impression for families during what can often be the most difficult periods of their lives.
Speaks Design Services supported the project from initial concept design through to delivery, collaborating with the wider project team to ensure the refurbishment was both functional and sensitive to the needs of staff, patients, and visitors. The completed scheme provides improved accessibility, enhanced circulation, and a more welcoming reception environment that better supports the day-to-day operation of the hospice.
It was a privilege to contribute to such a meaningful project. Beyond the physical improvements to the building, the refurbishment helps create opportunities to showcase the incredible work undertaken by Hope House, supporting children with life-threatening conditions and providing invaluable care and support to their families across the region.
